About Chris Tsakis

Chris Tsakis was born in Amityville on Long Island and grew up two towns east. He took up guitar at fourteen and a year later was living out his Jimmy Page fantasies in his first band, Cobra. At nineteen he formed The Nihilistics, a seminal NY punk rock outfit. He moved to New Jersey in the mid 80’s and was soon on the air at legendary free-form station WFMU, co-hosting The Nightmare Lounge. In 1989 he created the long-running talk show Aerial View (still on the air) and the same year began his run as MC of Coney Island’s Mermaid Parade. He’s been at SiriusXM since 2002 and can now be heard in Outlaw Country (SiriusXM 60, Thu & Fri, 8 pm–Mid ET) and co-hosting the talk show Freewheelin’ on the Road Dog Trucking Radio channel (SiriusXM 106, M–F, 11 am–2 pm ET).
