“The Infects” Is Here!

We interrupt our regularly-scheduled programming to bring you this important bulletin:

The Infects, the new novel by our own Sean Beaudoin, is out today. You can buy it at The Golden Notebook, Woodstock’s independent bookstore. They’ll ship it to you and everything.

The best zombie novel ever written.

Whether you like zombies, or think zombies are a hard-to-explain trope that needs to be eradicated from the face of the earth…like, you know, zombies…or both, you will enjoy The Infects. You know how the movie Airplane! is at once a freakin’ hilarious spoof of a disaster movie and also a better disaster movie than most disaster movies? That’s what’s going on here. Sean will challenge your brain…and then feast on it!

Here are some early reviews:

For those unfamiliar with (Beaudoin’s) work, The Infects is an impressively cerebral and engaging entry in zombie lit, offering a self-conscious parody of the conventions of the genre that focuses attention on the underlying cultural forces that make the zombie such a compelling symbol in the contemporary imagination. It is the zombie novel only Beaudoin could write, an allusive horror novel that engages in philosophical, social, and humanist critique while providing plenty of laugh-out-loud moments.

Beaudoin’s blackly comedic tale takes zombie lore to new territory—not only with the outbreak’s unusual point of origin but also with its consideration of the next phase of human evolution. An utterly original voice, plenty of sly pop-culture references, and a twist ending make for a satisfying read.
—The Horn Book

Horror goes hand in hand with dark comedy in this wickedly unpredictable adventure, as Beaudoin simultaneously skewers the fast food industry and familiar zombie tropes.

Here is the awesome-tastic book trailer:

Not to mention a killer interview with Renown Zombie Necrologist Dr. Ely Kyburg, over at The Nervous Breakdown.

One more thing: this book is “YA.” Since we all know most YA books are actually read by adults, let us assure you that you won’t feel dumbed-down-to. This book is way smarter than most of the stuff on the Oprah Book Club list.

Also, the proceeds from the sale of the book will go directly to a good cause—namely, Sean. So buying The Infects is like putting a few bucks in a virtual tip jar.

Thanks for listening.

And lock your doors.

Because something is shambling your way. Just keep telling yourself “It’s only a book…”
